Historical Landmark No. ***

As representing the Stevens Trail. This historic trail of Placer County has been approved by the State Historical Resources Commission for inclusion in the national Register of Historic Places. The nomination was submitted and approved on February 1, 2002 at Davis, CA. A number will be assigned and a plaque marking the Trail Head upon final approval will be placed.

Historical Landmark No. 780-9

Is now official as representing the Colfax Cape Horn Promontory overlook site. Also, Caltrans has installed two historical Landmark signs on SR-174, to direct motorists to the monument. Thanks to Gertrude Paul of The Colfax Area Historical Society and Eric Claydon of the Caltrans Traffic Operations office.
National Register of Historic Places

Is now official as representing the Colfax Freight Depot, AKA RR Junction Building, on Main Street. And, this qualifys it for incentives for preservation and restoration.

For $60 you can buy a brick with your name for the benches to be placed at the newly restored Railroad Depot. Ask at the City Hall for further information. Phone 530-346-2303
Historical Railroad Museum

Plans are under consideration and evaluation for the forming of a seperate Board of Directors under the umbrella of the CAHS. If you have interest in helping develop a Railroad Museum including the feasability of bringing in rolling stock please contact us [E-mail President]
Colfax Cobblestones

A collection of the CAHS Newsletter, since 1985, are now in a binder in the Reference section of the Colfax Branch of the Placer County Library at 200 Church Street, Colfax.
Archives Room

Is open on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon in the Arhives Room of the Sierra Vista Center for research. Phone: 530-346-7040. Free to the public.

    PROGRAM: Founders Day and 150th Anniversary of California Statehood in Colfax!!
    Time Capsul Chairperson: Gertrude Paul placed into a plastic pipe over 50 various objects, such as... Minted Coins, Stamps, Photos of Plaques, Colfax Record Newspaper, Papers, Bookmarks, Yearbooks, Postcards, Business Cards, Photographs, etc. This Capsul to be opened in the year 2050. The Time Capsul is placed, behind a plaque commemorating the event, in the "corner-stone" of the Colfax City Hall.

August 25, 2001...A grand Founders Day & 151st anniversary of California statehood in Colfax!! The statue of Schyler Colfax, was dedicated on this day, in honor of his effective efforts to bring forth a transcontinental railroad. There are some 7 other Colfax's throughout the nation so named in his honor.
